Sentimental Sunday...

Sitting in church today and thinking of the innumerable times I've sat next to Grumpy and used our “I love You” code during the meeting. We'll just be sitting there and one of us will draw the letter i and dot it, draw a heart, followed by the letter u. Sometimes it is drawn on an arm, sometimes the top of a knee, the palm of a hand, even on a back. Never planned or any indication it is going to happen. Just a quiet gesture. Impossible to miss, always lovely to receive. In response the one receiving draws a ditto mark twice to acknowledge the message. We love this quiet way of saying I love you anywhere we go. It is something we started way long ago when were just dating. It's something I have grown to treasure over 35 years of marriage.

My day started out with breakfast in bed. I guess getting older has it's advantages. Grumpy made me waffles and oatmeal with orange juice for my birthday today. It was so nice to wake up to such a sweet surprise. I got birthday phones calls from friends and family, serenaded by the Goodwins on the phone, too cute with Lauren as the featured singer, and the Twilight soundtrack from Jade and Tawna. Stacie made me my favorite pie - lemon. It was really good and so sweet of her to think of it. I had a hard time not crying because that was something Nana often did and it was so nice that she thought of it. I appreciate the birthday blog tributes, they were very complimentary.

As I would not be having a birthday without a mother to give me birth, I must pay tribute to my Mom. I thank her for the life she gave me, for the time, tears, frustration and all that goes with being a Mom that she went through for me. I don't mean to leave Dads out, or belittle their role, but moms are just so there all the time. I love my Mom and appreciate so much all she did for me. Thanks for my birthday Nan.

very nice tribute Mom!! She was a great lady!!! And it is true, we all owe our birthdays to our moms (and dads). You know, I still agree that the mom should get presents on the kids birthday!!!

I second Jade's motion - mom's should get presents on their kids' birthdays!!!! Jade - we'll start with yours! Just Kiddin! Love you mom! I still have not given you your present though! Every year I give you a snowman to add to your collection...I can't seem to find one yet this year that fits!!!! Where have all the snowmen gone??? I am still searching and confident I will find one worthy of your unique decor!
